Hot on the heels of Lauren Bird‘s 2017 debut album “The Inbetween” comes “I’m Not”, a terrific uptempo new single from this rising Northern Irish star.

Starting out with a scratch, a strum and a shake one can be forgiven for expecting a three minute pleasingly happy little ukulele song. But the subtle build of bass, guitar and drums soon soars the song in a much more dazzling direction with a tight beat and great melodic bass line.

Interestingly Lauren quotes Paul Simon as an influence which one can hear explicitly in the melodic and rhythmic vocal composition. A self confessed source of inspiration then that Lauren has blended admirably into her own style with strong lyrics too focused on “taking ownership of yourself and not letting anyone knock you down”. A fitting song indeed to intentionally release on International Women’s Day.

Essentially bang on the traditional three minute pop song limit “I’m Not” is certainly a track to play on repeat with its catchy uke riff, thoughtful vocals and stable beat of a backdrop.

The single is out on March 8th 2018. Check out Lauren on her website or on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
